Name: Madeline "Maddie" D'Aubrigue
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 112 lb
Appearance: Madeline has fair skin from most of her hours being spent indoors dancing. Her hair is brown with the slightest tint of red that is brought out under the bright lights of the stage. It is of medium length, kept slightly short so it is out of the way more, flowing to above her bust. Maddie is average height, standing 5'4", average weight and has a very feminine body type. Her eyes are mysterious, as they are a clear-sort of color that is tinted green. She has muscle from all her dancing, though it isn't overbearing.
When dancing, she normally either wears the costume she is assigned for the production or just a simple dancing skirt and top. Ballet slippers seem to be permenately apart of Maddie's feet so that she can dance at a moments notice when surprise rehearsals are called. But when she has a rare day off, she dons a simple, mint colored dress with a full skirt and almost no detail. But she can't afford anything much nicer for just a simple trip out. If there is a ball or masque and she receives an invitation, she normally has the plainest gown of all. For that reason, she tries to avoid formal events.
Personality: Madeline is very diligent and serious. She seems to only be happy when she is dancing, but besides that she keeps to herself. It has been noted that she is not shy, but perhaps she just doesn't have the social skills many of the other girls have. When she can't be dancing, she is normally reading a book or writing letters to her mother, but no one else knows who she writes to. When she does speak, it is normally just because something someone said is irritating and she is normally very blunt about it. The only person who seems to understand her is Mme. Giry, but Madeline doesn't open up to anyone, no matter how much they might comprend her situation.
But in the times when she feels relaxed, even happy, she can be rather pleasant company with a bit of wit and a mischievious sort of attitude. But don't expect her to be like that most of the time. Those are her secret moments and she will normally act like they didn't even happen afterwards. When she feels happy, Maddie somehow feels she is betraying everyone. How could she be happy when most of her family was dead and her only living was more distant than the stars? Her family always struggled, she couldn't take comfort in the 'easier' life she had now without feeling guilty.

Her mother, Jacqueline, was already struggling to raise children other growing children and Madeline added to the problem. Her earliest memories are those of going to the church for charity or sleeping in the slums with a dipping roof on a cold, stormy night. But even amongst the despair, she discovered dance from a gyspy in the streets and found it to be the only escape from her cold life.
When Madeline turned 8, her older brother, Fredrick, contracted smallpox and, because of their poor living conditions, died within the year. He was only 10. Fearing the 'house' was contaminated, Jacqueline took up her remaining two children and moved to Paris where she had been promised a job, but it proved to be a disappointment. For four months they were living on the dirty streets while she tried in vain to secure a job, but no one wanted a widow with two offpsring.
During this time, Madeline discovered the Opera Garnier and was able to sneak a peak at their marvelous ballerinas. From that moment, minutes before she was dragged out of the opera house, she wanted to be on the stage dancing at an opera house. Her mother didn't want to squander her daughter's hopes, but knew it was a one in a million chance her dreams would be reality.
So they moved back out of town and her mother from a job as a help on a farm in the country. For two years they lived in the country, making a small pay but staying alive. Finally, Maddie had convinced her mother to atleast let her try out for the Opera Garnier she had seen in Paris. Though it was tough, Jacqueline put away a little money each month until they had enough to make the trip and get Madeline some presentable clothes. They traveled to town when on Maddie's twelf birthday where she danced with the rest of the girls auditioning. And even though she was by far the most poorly dressed, he natural talent shined through and she was accepted.
She kissed her mother goodbye, both sad to see the other leave, but both knowing it would be easier on the other this way. Three weeks after their seperation, Madeline received a letter from her mother informing her that her older sister, Anne had run away with the farmer's son and could not be found. Maddie couldn't leave the opera house to search for her sister but she wrote her mother back, letting her know that she would be praying for the situation.
Unfortunately, the strain was too much for Jacqueline and she died a year later, still pursuing to find her lost daughter. The next year was torture for Madeline, feeling as if she was destined to be alone since all her family had disappeared. A glimmer of hope appear when she turned fourteen and her sister sent a brief letter announcing her engagement to someone Maddie had never met. Madeline felt relieved and wrote to her anyways on things that were happening at the opera house, though he sister replied to only perhaps a third of the letters. But she has found whenever she writes about the phantom, her sister sends eager replies.

Sample Post:It was only dawn as Madeline finished dressing in her simple ballerina's skirt and a dance corset, preparing for the day of never-ending practices ahead. Sun shone in from a distant window into the dark room of groaning girls, all making some sort of protest against the early waking hours. But Maddie kept quite as she silently began to pull on her worn practice bellet slippers. She finished lacing the ribbons up her ankles and then let her fingers brush against the soft silk.
Madeline glanced around the room. Someone told a joke; atleast that what Maddie suspected it was, for a few of the girls who werent still drowsy grinned and let lighthearted laughs out. But Madline wasn't a social butterfly. She didn't share in their joking and laughing. She stood and grabbed a ribbon from the basket that sat on the small table, overflowing with ribbons for anyone's used. She pulled her hair back into a sort of bun, but several strands of hair feel loose, framing her face. She didn't bother to fix it and sneaked out of the room.
Walking down the hall alone, she could still hear the noise of the other rising ballerinas. She sighed, wondering is a letter from Anne would arrive that day. But she doubted it. Nothing interesting had happened in Maddie's last letter and Anne was only four months pregnant with her first child. Nothing exciting for be happening any time soon. But Madeline didn't mind. She liked things rather dull, or atleast she had convinced her self so. As long as she could dance she would be fine. Only when she danced could she seem to forget...everything.
