The Rose & The Nightingale - directed by Eliza
Right, now the member of the month, once R&N has been opened a month and is up and running, is decided by various things. The first thing: Activity. A member must be active with the site, meaning they come on at least once or twice every other day to check posts and reply to the people they're posting with. Two: they're involved with what's going on with the site. That means anything out of character or in character. If there's a change going on, they're giving feedback on it, or if we've started a poll for opinions on something, they've voted and replied, etc., etc. Over all just being involved. Thirdly: They're kind and respectful to the other players in OOC, the one that can be viewed by everyone. That includes the Cbox, the game board, and anything in the OOC categories. They're also willing to help members or guests that have questions if the admins aren't online to do it themselves
Ah, Paris. Life in Victorian France is enjoyable. Quiet and calm with only the occasional disaster (if you could even call it that!) to disturb your peace. A beautiful city with wonderful smells, music, and people. Any stranger on the street would tell you there's no place he'd rather be than Paris, France.
Paris is home to many wonderful attractions, big and small. One of the most well known is the Palais Garnier: The Paris Opera House.
Many flock to the Opera in search of fame, hoping to become known to all of France, to have their name and picture on the signs and boards, to be the stars of famous operas and attract people from all over the country to the shows.
On the outside, the Opera House seems quiet and calm. But the inside is quite different. Chatter is always abuzz, gossip floating in the air like a thick cloud of smog. Rumors fly through the Opera House like a well-bred race horse: at top speed.
The most current rumor happens to be that of the Opera's infamous Ghost haunting the halls and corridors. The current managers, Monsieurs Poligny and Debienne have retired and left the Opera in the hands of two new managers, Andre and Firmin. The story of their expeditions with the infamous Phantom of the Opera have only just begun.
What will you be to Victorian Paris? A shopkeeper? A wealthy spouse? Law enforcement, or simply your every day civillian?
Or will you be one of those who dreams of the stage? A ballerina, perhaps, or maybe you search for something more, something along the lines of diva.
Whatever you wish to be, it can happen here.
Welcome to Paris, France: the home of The Paris Opera House and its Phantom.

I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THESE RULES AT ANY TIME. but don't worry, I'll make an announcement if/when I change them.
Basic Rules -Respect your fellow members. I will not stand for any forms of racism, sexism, or anything extremely offensive towards other members. It's uncalled for. If you have a problem with the member, please do not bring it onto the board.
-If you get into an argument with another member (a heated argument, a small disagreement I will stand for, because hey, it happens) please take it to PM, E-Mail, or AIM, Yahoo, MSN, whatever instant messenger you have.
-Things can be bent to fit. If a building was built a few years after 1881, but it is extremely important to your character's history then you may change it. If it is extreme, please message me to find out if you can.
-I do not claim to be a historian. Some completion of buildings may have been after 1881. The majority of the places are fiction, save for a few boards that are actually places located in Paris today.
-Here, we do not exactly follow the story the way it is. It's not a set RPG. It's not already determined that Christine is going to be afraid of Erik and flee with Raoul. Please realize that this is almost like a totally alternate story to the actual legend of the Phantom.
-You have the option of being a part of the story or not. If you'd rather roleplay ordinary life than a character in The Phantom of the Opera, go for it. But please realize that this does not make it two different roleplay games. If you roleplay everyday life you would still be aware of the unusual rumors of the Opera. Everyday life is basically woven into the story. Original characters are also accepted into the story.
-NO CHAT SPEAK WHATSOEVER. You may use it in the CBox, but that is the ONLY place. NEVER in posts. You do not know how irritating it is.
-Spellcheck, it's a handy little thing. Use it :D
-If you use OOC in a post, please make it clear.
-ONE character per account.
-No pornography.
-Minimal profanity, please. You may use it, yes, but please do not go overboard. I realize that some people find profanity offensive or rude, please respect their feelings.
-Your display name must be the first and last name of your character. Nothing like "***iLoVEwaFfLES<33". Frankly, I don't care what you do to make it fancy, but please don't go all out like it's the Christmas Tree in Times Square. Sometimes it gets annoying if you really deck it out.
-I ask that you please respect the staff. This includes graphic personalizers, moderators, global moderators, admin, etc., etc. We're here to help you with things and make this site worth while.
-Feel free to suggest things, that is what the suggestion box is for. I love to hear from you all about things that would improve The Rose & The Nightingale.
In Character -All posts must be at least 150 words. That is really not much to ask of you. I'd really prefer if you try. This is an intermediate-advanced roleplay site. That would be, basically, 400+ words. I do not put a limit on this because I do not like to stress people. Though, please realize that you have to give the fellow replying something to reply to. Try explaining thoughts along with actions if you have trouble.
-You may not kill another character without the player's permission.
-NO GODMODING/POWERPLAYING. I get so tired of having to say this over and over again on sites. I will give examples if you do not know what it is. BAD - Bob threw a stone at Ed, it hit him in the eye and he fell to the ground. No! Not good! You CANNOT control other characters. That is the reason they have a player. It should've been like this. GOOD - Bob threw a stone at Ed, hoping to hit him in the eye and possibly cause him to fall to the ground.
-CANONS: the minimum of words for Erik, Christine, & Raoul is 350. IF YOU AUDITION FOR ERIK OR RAOUL, YOU MUST BE ABLE TO POST AT LEAST 400 WORDS. The other canons minimum are 250, and must be able to post at least 300 words.
-YOUR CHARACTER CANNOT BE PERFECT; GIVE IT SOME FLAWS. END OF STORY.
-Keep things in the time setting! This is Paris, France in 1881. People aren't going to be driving around in cars (cars = 1890's) or wearing miniskirts and halter tops. Horses and carriages or walking are your means of trasnportation, as well as a train depot. Clothes.. Women wore bustle dresses with corsets, petticoats, etc., etc. Men usually wore a suit of some kind, cravat, and such. Also, propriety was a large subject. Manners were important. Though if your character completely rebels against this, fine with me. Just realize that typical ladies and gentlemen followed propriety rules.
-Romantic relationships are allowed, yes. Sex, yes (althought like said above, propriety-wise women would not lose their virginity until they were married) but please make sure that if your thread contains sexual content (some people find this disgusting and/or inappropriate, please respect that) please label the thread with an [R]. If I find any threads containing sexual content that are not labelled, I will add it in myself. Also, pregnancies are allowed but you must contact the admin before certifying that your character is pregnant.
-If a couple becomes engaged, tell the ADMIN so she can go and change the things needed to be changed. Also, I do not want to make romantic relationships difficult so I am not going to emphasize the whole 'marrying into someone higher than your status' or anything like that. It makes things quite difficult. I will have titles posted in another thread. If your character marries a character of a higher status (say, Victome or Comte) then the female would become the Comtess, or Vicomtess.
-Violence is allowed as well. Again, if it becomes graphic please label it with an [R].
-Mini-plots (drama) between two or more characters IS allowed. If it involves something major that would change the site (or site plot) in an extreme way, please contact a staff member (preferrably the admin).
Housing -Manors, cottages, and small flats are availiable. Please keep it realistic. If your character cannot afford a manor, do not request one. If your character has a wealthy family then yes, you may have a manor.
-Request them in the proper board.
Signatures -Signatures must not exceed 600 x 350. I do not want anything stretching the board. If you do stretch the board, I will remove your signature (but I will save the contents) and PM you to tell you. You will not receive a warning for this unless it becomes extremely excessive.
Rule Breaking -Rule breaking involves being in character and out of character. Breaking rules will involve two warnings and a ban. I'm being very lenient on the warnings. I won't give warnings out for stupid things either, guys.
First & Second Offense - Warnings Third Offense - Two day ban. Fourth Offense - Week ban. Fifth Offense - Permanent I.P. ban from The Rose & The Nightingale.
Please DO NOT make accounts with different usernames because one was banned. It makes me angry.
There. All done. Yes it was a bit long... But it's worth it. You won't be getting any bannings this way, XD
